Hometown Boy Christodoulou To Race Streets Of Toronto With VRD Racing
TORONTO, Ont., Canada — Most 18-year-olds would be in trouble if caught racing along Lake Shore Boulevard, but not this time. Nico Christodoulou, born and raised in Toronto, will realize a dream this weekend as he sets out to race at the Honda Indy Toronto in USF2000 Presented by Cooper Tires, as part of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES support bill.
Christodoulou, who is in his third season as part of the VRD Racing team, is currently competing in the UK as part of a joint effort ‘Arden VRD’ in the GB3 Championship. VRD Racing, who sit third in the team standings and joint second in the drivers’ championship with youngster Nikita Johnson, look to Christodoulou to help take the fight to its rivals to strengthen its quest for title bids in both championships.
“Since I can remember it’s been a dream of mine to be a racing driver, and to do this at my home race is what dreams are made of,” said Christodoulou. “To have all of my family and friends watch me race live will be a first for me and I’m really excited for this. But even more exciting for me is to show my sponsors what I’m capable of in front of their very eyes.”
Christodoulou has never had the chance to race cars at this level in his home country. Racing in Mexico, the U.S., Great Britain and Europe, Christodoulou will be now making his debut in Toronto, Canada.
“We are very excited to have Nico in the car this weekend,” said VRD’s Dan Mitchell. “It will be our very first-time racing in Toronto, but after a strong debut on the streets of St. Petersburg, the team and I are very confident going into the big race this weekend.
“Nico is a valued member of the VRD family, and we have no doubt he will fit right back in where he belongs. We have goals as a team as he does as a driver. These have always aligned and will continue to do so this weekend. We race to win – win races, win drivers’ championships and win team championships. We strongly believe Nico will play a key role at his home race to help us achieve our goals.”
